Joseph J. Kodner

Photo of Joseph KodnerMr. Kodner, a partner in the firm, graduated from the Washington University School of Law in 2003, where he was an associate editor for the Global Studies Law Review. Following graduation, Mr. Kodner practiced for two years in Kansas City in the field of defense litigation. Since joining our firm in 2005, he has limited his practice to the field of matrimonial and family law. In addition his trial level work, Mr. Kodner has successfully handled over ten appellate matters in the family law context.

Mr. Kodner is a 2008 graduate of the American Bar Association's Family Law Trial Advocacy Institute, and participated in the 2006 and 2009 American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers' Training Institutes for Family Law Associates.

Mr. Kodner has spoken and written on a variety of legal topics, both locally and statewide, including the Missouri Bar Annual Meeting and the Missouri Bar Solo and Small Firm Conference. His topics have included "The Impact of the Reconfigured Family on Estate and Trust Issues" at the 2010 Solo and Small Firm Conference presented by the Missouri Bar; "Understanding Trusts in the Dissolution of Marriage Context" at the 2014 Missouri Bar Annual meeting, and "Family Law Update: Cases and Statutes" for the 2017 Missouri Bar Annual Meeting.

In addition to his other publications, Mr. Kodner co-authored the update for the most recent edition of the Missouri Bar Family Law CLE chapter on Conflicts of Law. In 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers, a publication of Law and Politics Magazine, recognized Mr. Kodner as a "Super Lawyers Rising Star." He is also the co-author of an informational book about divorce law for lay people, entitled A Guide to Divorce in Missouri: Simple Answers to Complex Questions (Addicus Books 2017).

Mr. Kodner is licensed to practice in both Missouri and Kansas, and is a member of several local bar associations. Mr. Kodner is married to Holly Kodner and they are the parents of two daughters.
